Corporate Retreat Locations in Spain: Where to Go and Why

We’ve been planning team retreats in Spain for many years and we’ve learned there’s a perfect spot for every team. Spain gives you a lot of choice: a creative coastal city, a capital that never seems to sleep, a sunny southern base and an island with mountains and coves on the doorstep. This guide will help you find the right one, based on our 10+ years of experience.

I’m Lisa, founder of Lá Fora. I’ve spent the last decade designing offsites, scouting venues and thinking about the details nobody else does: the small, memorable touches a team still talks about months later. Spain has become one of my favourite places to bring teams. Below, I’ll walk you through its best retreat locations, what each one does brilliantly and what to watch out for, so you can choose with confidence.

Barcelona

Barcelona manages to feel calm and alive at the same time. Mornings are unhurried, the city is walkable, and the beach is right on your doorstep. Add a big coworking scene and one of Europe’s best-connected airports, and it’s an easy yes for international teams.

Barcelona Spain

Highlights

🔹 Neighbourhoods with personality: Gràcia for village squares, El Born for history and bars, Poblenou for creative, modern meeting spaces.

🔹 Sharing culture: Tapas and pica-pica dinners put everyone round the same table, which does more for team bonding than any icebreaker.

🔹 Sea and mountains: Start the day with beach yoga, then take the team to Montserrat, about an hour inland.

🔹 Easy arrivals: El Prat airport has direct routes across Europe plus long-haul connections, and it’s around 30 minutes from the centre.

Weather

Mild winters and warm, humid summers. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the sweet spot for outdoor sessions without the heat.

Expert tips

Check the events calendar first: Mobile World Congress (late February or early March), Primavera Sound (early June) and Smart City Expo and IBTM (November) fill hotels and push prices up.

Embrace the late dinners: Most people eat at around 20:30 or 21:00, so a slightly later start the next morning helps everyone enjoy the evening.

Keep an eye on bags: Pickpocketing is common around La Rambla and on the metro, so a quick word at the welcome briefing goes a long way.

Madrid

Spain’s capital is a strong choice for teams that want energy, culture and memorable meeting spaces. Locals take food seriously, and the long, unhurried sobremesa (the chat that carries on after meals) is one of the best team-building tools we know.

Company Retreats Madrid

Highlights

🔹 Spaces that inspire: From historic palaces to elegant boutique hotels, Madrid’s meeting rooms feel a world away from the office, bringing fresh energy to any strategy session.

🔹 Green breathing space: Rowing boats on the Retiro lake and bike rides along Madrid Río give the team a reset between sessions.

🔹 Culture on tap: World-class museums, flamenco nights and tapas crawls that turn colleagues into friends.

🔹 Gateway to the rest of Spain: High-speed trains reach all corners of the country, so day trips and combined itineraries are easy.

Weather

Madrid is inland and high above sea level, so its seasons are more extreme than on the coast. Summers are very hot and winters are crisp and cold. Spring and autumn are ideal.

Expert tips

Avoid August: Temperatures regularly climb above 35°C. Many locals leave the city, meaning some of the best family-run restaurants close.

Respect the midday slowdown: Things go quiet from roughly 14:00 to 17:00, so plan outings in the morning and late afternoon.

Consider distances: Business hotels near the airport look practical on paper, but leave you a 30 minutes from the soul of the city. Stay central and the city becomes part of the retreat.

Valencia

Valencia is bright, easy-going and full of surprises. Futuristic architecture sits beside a medieval old town, a 9km garden runs through the middle of the city, and the rice fields where paella was born are just down the road. It’s a city made for cycling, long lunches and teams who want space to think.

Highlights

🔹 The Turia Gardens: A 9km park in an old riverbed that runs through the city. Perfect for bike tours, morning runs and outdoor fitness sessions.

🔹 The home of paella: A paella workshop is a brilliant group activity. For something extra special, head 20 minutes south and watch the sunset over the rice fields.

🔹 Space to breathe: Wide, uncrowded beaches, ideal for morning yoga or a volleyball tournament.

🔹 Easy logistics: The airport is around 20 minutes from the centre, and high-speed trains link to Madrid in under two hours.

Weather

Expect long, sunny seasons and mild winters. Peak Summer get hot and humid, so May, June, September and October are the most comfortable months.

Expert tips

Steer clear of Las Fallas: From 15 to 19 March the city is loud day and night. The festival takes over the streets and hotels book out early.

Base yourselves near the Turia or the old town: Getting around on foot or by bike keeps the group together and cuts transfer costs.

Málaga

Málaga has quietly become one of Spain’s most exciting small cities. It’s compact, walkable and packed with culture. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year it’s one of the safest bets in Europe for an outdoor-heavy agenda, even in winter.

Company Retreats Malaga

Highlights

🔹 Rooftops with a view: The city is known for its rooftop terraces. Watching the sun set over the cathedral with a glass of local wine is an easy win for a welcome drink.

🔹 Seafood by the sea: Grilled espetos (sardines cooked on skewers over an open fire) on the beach make for a memorable team dinner.

🔹 Sea and mountains in minutes: Paddleboard at the beach in the morning and hike through the pine forests in the afternoon, both within 20 minutes of the centre.

🔹 Great connections: Great connections: The airport is only 15 minutes from the centre, so arrivals are smooth, speedy and stress-free.

Weather

Málaga is one of our top picks for a retreat between November and March, when much of Europe is grey. The summers may be sizzling, but the winters are reliably mild and sunny.

Expert tips

Watch out for the terral: This hot, dry wind blows in from inland in summer and can make outdoor sessions uncomfortable at short notice. Always have an indoor back-up.

Look east, not west: The quieter, more scenic coast towards Rincón and Nerja suits retreats better than the resort strip west of the city.

Think about sleep: The beautiful historic centre gets lively at night, so pick accommodation slightly outside of it if the team needs early starts.

Mallorca

Mallorca is so much more than its party-island reputation. Away from the resort strips you’ll find mountain villages, harbour towns and hidden coves, often within half an hour of each other. It’s ideal for teams who want to switch off properly and spend real time together.

Company Retreats Mallorca

Highlights

🔹 Coast and mountains: A mountain hike in the morning and a swim in turquoise water by the afternoon. Mallorca makes it easy to do both in a day.

🔹 Characterful venues: Boutique hotels and countryside fincas with meeting rooms that feel far from a hotel conference suite.

🔹 Quick to reach: Palma airport is about 15 minutes from the city and very well connected to the rest of Europe.

Weather

Hot, busy summers and quiet winters. March to June and September to October give the best mix of weather, availability and price.

Expert tips

Book transport early: Public transport is limited meaning coaches and drivers get booked up quickly.

Book water activities early: Boat days, kayaking trips and other water activities are popular. Reserve them at least a month in advance.

Avoid low-season: Many hotels and restaurants outside Palma close between November and February.

What I've learned on the ground

Guides like this can tell you where to go, but not what it takes to make a retreat run smoothly once you’re there. After 10 years and more than 80+ teams, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • The transfer is the first impression. Taxis are not the nicest option everywhere (they can speed, be rude and overcharge). If you want to make an impression, I’d always recommend to invest into a private professional transfer and a friendly face at arrivals.
  • Always have a Plan B. Even in Spain it can rain. On a recent retreat, rain hit our only outdoor day, so coasteering became a last-minute padel tournament.
  • Local suppliers make the difference. Especially with food. (Do you know how to eat a sardine off a slice of bread without a fork? I didn’t.)

A moment from a recent retreat

Plenty Search brought 12 people to Barcelona in August. Risky, we said, as it’s when locals escape the heat. So we built the week around it:

  • Work sessions in the hottest hours, in an air-conditioned room
  • Air-conditioned transfers for the city tour, instead of a sweaty walk
  • Evenings on Spanish time: late, and cooler
  • A half-day sailing trip to finish

“Every venue was a hit. Big shoutout for how attentive they were during the week itself, always checking in. If you’re planning an offsite, highly recommend La Fora!”
